Episode 3 recap

Rafael swats medicine from Elaine Carpe's hands, prompting Edward Klein to intervene. A memory shows Logan threatening that Elaine's mother Jenny will die without this marriage. Back at the party, Rafael makes Elaine rub ointment on Jessica. Jessica pretends to hurt and hits Elaine. Then, Jessica talks Rafael into throwing his engagement band into the pool. Rafael calls off the wedding unless Elaine gets it back, so Elaine leaps into the water to look for it.

Episode 3 Scene by Scene

  1. 00:00: Confrontation Over the Medicine

    Elaine offers the medicine to Rafael, but he smacks it out of her hand. Edward steps forward and cautions his brother to stop. Rafael ignores him and loudly claims total authority over his bride-to-be in front of everyone.

  2. 00:37: Logan's Threat in the Hospital

    A flashback reveals Elaine standing beside her mother Jenny's hospital bed. Her father Logan corners her with an ultimatum. He warns Elaine that Jenny will die on life support unless she marries Rafael before the month ends.

  3. 01:03: Edward's Question and Rafael's Order

    Edward pulls Elaine aside and asks why she still plans to marry Rafael after such mistreatment. Rafael interrupts and demands that Elaine put ointment on Jessica. Elaine silently agrees and follows Rafael's humiliating instruction.

  4. 01:30: Jessica Strikes Elaine Down

    While Elaine applies the cream, Jessica taunts her and pretends to be hurt. Jessica strikes Elaine, knocking her flat onto the ground. Edward quickly runs over, lifts Elaine back to her feet, and scolds Rafael for allowing it.

  5. 02:04: The Ring in the Water

    Jessica urges Rafael to make another demand. Rafael slides off his engagement ring and flings it into the swimming pool. He announces that tomorrow's wedding is canceled unless Elaine goes into the water and retrieves the band herself.

    Elaine thinks of her hospitalized mother and leaps straight into the pool water. She swims down to look for the discarded band. Both Edward and Rafael stand near the edge, watching her jump in complete shock.
