   The ship reaches a stone circle surrounded by open water. Ceremonial guards grab Isla and shove her to her knees. The high priestess unrolls a ritual scroll and declares that twelve brides face the Bride Tide today.

   Wealthy aristocrats watch the ceremony through a massive scrying mirror. A hostess in purple velvet takes bets on which girl will perish first. A lord seated on a throne orders the observers to pay attention to the quiet bride.

   Back on the altar, the high priestess pulls out a curved ritual dagger and holds it up before the candidates. She points directly toward the black swirling tide and commands the first bride in white to walk inside.
