Leah plays a recorded mating song to a sea creature named Thalanis, who sings it back and tries to kiss her. When she calls Professor Owen, he warns her that Thalanis is a deadly siren hunting for a mate. Leah races away on her boat, but Thalanis grows legs and traps her inside. A flashback jumps back two months. Owen assigns Leah to study merfolk, and she watches Thalanis kill a shark.

Episode 1 Scene by Scene

  1. 00:00: A Mating Song Underwater

    Leah remembers using a speaker to teach Thalanis a courtship song near the coast of Jade Island. Thalanis sings the melody back to her underwater. He then leans forward toward her face to give her a kiss.

  2. 00:33: Flight From a Predatory Siren

    Owen warns Leah that Thalanis is a siren. Leah removes her fake mermaid tail and flees on her boat. Thalanis chases her, turns his tail into legs, breaks through the cabin doors, and corners her as his bride.

  3. 01:24: Assignment to Blue-Sea Planet

    Two months earlier, Professor Owen lectures his class about merfolk mating cycles. He picks his best student, Leah, for a solo field mission. He directs her to travel to Blue-Sea Planet to document their breeding patterns for her thesis.

  4. 01:49: Encounter on the Shoreline

    Leah lands her shuttle on Jade Island to watch the merfolk. A shark suddenly attacks in the shallows. Leah pulls out her gun, but Thalanis leaps out and slays the beast. Leah stands on the shore in awe.

Owen · Owen screams through the communicator after Leah admits she played Thalanis a mating song.

“For a siren courtship is a hunt. He'll drag his mate to the bottom and keeps her secretly until she carries his eggs. Leah, don't get caught!”

Owen · Owen warns Leah about the creature's dangerous breeding behavior while she tries to escape.

Thalanis · Thalanis corners Leah inside her boat cabin after smashing through the entrance doors.

“So beautiful.”

Leah · Leah whispers to herself on the beach after watching Thalanis defeat the attacking shark.

How Episode 1 Ends

In the flashback, Leah stands on the Jade Island shoreline after Thalanis kills the shark. She holds her energy gun while staring at him in fascination, and Thalanis turns his gaze directly onto her. Will Leah realize the danger she is facing before Thalanis marks her as his chosen bride?
