Episode 9 recap

Nora ends the engagement and tells Blake to marry his mother. Blake defends Diane and strikes Nora across the face. Blake and Diane then insist Nora pay back every dollar spent during their courtship. Nora recalls Vivian's past warnings and Blake's cheap gifts. Diane notices Nora's jade necklace, ordering Blake and a bridesmaid to pin Nora down while she snatches it. The pendant shatters. Vivian Hart suddenly arrives, furiously shouting at Blake's family.

Episode 9 Scene by Scene

  1. 00:00: Calling Off the Ceremony

    Nora tells Blake the wedding is finished and tells him to marry his mother instead. Blake grabs Nora's arm to defend Diane. When Nora calls him out for needing his mother's approval for everything, Blake strikes her across the face.

  2. 00:30: A Warning From Nora's Mother

    In a flashback at her family home, Nora remembers speaking with Vivian. Vivian warns her that Blake lets his mother make all his life choices. She tells Nora that a relationship with a man like that will never bring happiness.

  3. 00:37: Demands for Repayment

    Back at the altar, Blake pressures Nora to obey Diane so the marriage can proceed. Nora refuses to give in. Angered by her defiance, Blake and Diane demand Nora repay every single cent Blake spent on her during their relationship.

  4. 01:01: Memories of Inexpensive Gifts

    Nora experiences a flashback to their modest apartment. Blake brings home cheap clothes bought from a local mall. Rather than complaining about the quality, Nora happily accepts the clothing and promises to wear whatever gifts he purchases for her.

  5. 01:31: The Smashed Jade Necklace

    Diane spots Nora's dragon jade necklace and claims it as debt repayment. When Nora fights back, Blake and a bridesmaid pin her arms. Diane violently yanks the jewelry away, dropping the pendant onto the carpet where it shatters into pieces.

  6. 02:12: Vivian Hart Arrives

    A black luxury Mercedes pulls up to the entrance driveway. Vivian Hart steps out of the vehicle in pure anger. Seeing the Lawson family physically mistreating her daughter, Vivian immediately shouts at Blake and his mother to stop.
