Martha Cobb attacks a heavily pregnant Lila with a hockey stick, cursing her for bringing home no money. Jason and Zoe Cobb agree that Lila must leave, so Martha throws her out into the winter cold. Lila carries her belongings down a snowy sidewalk as sudden labor contractions begin. She bleeds, falls to the ground, and screams for help. When an SUV passes, Lila spots Alexander inside before the car drives off.

    Martha Cobb hits Lila with a hockey stick and screams at her for getting pregnant by a stranger. Lila refuses to let anyone hurt her unborn child. Jason and Zoe urge Martha to cast Lila out, and Martha shoves her into the street.

    Lila walks into a snowstorm with her bags when contractions hit. She starts bleeding and collapses onto the ground. Strangers surround her to call for an ambulance. Lila spots Alexander through an SUV window as his car passes her by.
