Margaret Sterling tells Emma to legally change her last name, but Emma refuses because she wants to honor the woman who raised her. Eleanor Sterling punishes Emma by banishing her to a remote attic and ordering etiquette training. In the attic, Chloe's former assistant mocks Emma's background. Emma grabs the woman's shoulder, pushes her to her knees, and fires her. Chloe comes upstairs to gloat, but Emma tells her to move out of the light.

  1. 00:00: A Refusal to Change Names

    Margaret Sterling urges Emma to adopt the family name. Emma refuses to drop her current name to honor her adoptive mother. Eleanor gets angry, instructs the butler to put Emma in the far west-side attic, and demands etiquette lessons for her.

  2. 00:40: Emma Subdues the Assistant

    Chloe's former assistant arrives in the attic and insults Emma's slum upbringing. When the assistant pushes back, Emma grabs her shoulder, forces her to her knees, and fires her on the spot. Emma permits the maid, Anna, to remain in the room.

  3. 01:28: Chloe's Attic Visit

    Chloe walks into the west-side attic room to mock Emma's poor living conditions. Emma pays little attention to the taunts. She speaks coldly and tells Chloe she is blocking the light. Chloe storms off, furious at Emma's dismissive attitude.
