Carla Miller opens a courier package in her office and finds the signed renewal agreement inside. She tries calling and emailing Ethan Blake right away. When no response comes through, she grabs her things and hurries out the door.

Carla arrives at the hallway outside apartment 204. She pounds on Ethan's locked door several times and calls out to him. The deadbolt stays firmly in place, and nobody answers her knocks from inside the silent unit.

Carla heads down to the building entrance to speak with the elderly doorman in his booth. The doorman informs her that Ethan departed abruptly last month. He explains that the tenant carried only one black suitcase when he walked away.

Outside on the street, Carla talks to a responding police officer. The officer enters Ethan's details into the official registration system. He announces that Ethan's entire background is completely made up, which leaves Carla sobbing in total devastation.
