Summary
He Loved Me Only After I Died is a transmigration angst short drama driven by fake devotion and terminal illness tropes. Viewers who enjoy cold male leads, female leads who finally walk away, and gut-wrenching hospital confrontations will appreciate the emotional friction.
The plot rests on a cruel betrayal. Jiang Xuan spends fifteen years completing a system mission to make male lead Shen Huaixu fall in love with her. On their wedding day, she expects a completed mission. Instead, the system alerts her that his affection score stands at zero percent. He knows their world comes from a novel. To protect his true love Shi Qing from the designated villainess, he faked every scrap of affection for fifteen years. When Shi Qing falls ill, he leaves Jiang Xuan on the road, cancels the wedding, and demands Jiang Xuan act as a marrow donor.
What makes the premise hit hard is Jiang Xuan's complete shift from compliance to cold detachment. She does not scream or beg after discovering his secret diary. Her body is already failing from system backlash and organ failure. She quietly visits a funeral shop to purchase her own gravestone, signs divorce papers, and agrees to the bone marrow surgery just to pay off her debts. The drama balances two ticking clocks: the system wipeout deadline and Shen Huaixu's creeping realization that she is actually slipping away.

He Loved Me Only After I Died: Recap by Episode
EP 1: Zero Percent Affection
Shen Huaixu and Jiang Xuan prepare for a lavish wedding. Jiang Xuan recalls transmigrating fifteen years ago as a villainess, tasked with reaching one hundred percent affection from Shen Huaixu to survive. She believes his past protection and promises mean success. Right before walking down the aisle, she checks her progress. The system coldly announces his affection sits at zero percent, signaling complete failure and a wipeout execution within forty-eight hours.
EP 2: The Hidden Diary
Jiang Xuan finds Shen Huaixu's diary inside his briefcase in the dressing room. The pages reveal he always knew their world was a book. He deliberately feigned fifteen years of romance to shield his true love, Shi Qing, from Jiang Xuan. Around the corner, she overhears Shen Huaixu tell Ji Yun he regrets nothing if it keeps Shi Qing safe. Devastated by the truth, Jiang Xuan stumbles back in tears.
EP 3: Abandoned on the Street
Jiang Xuan wanders into the street in her wedding gown. Shen Huaixu finds her and offers soothing words, but an urgent phone call makes him abandon her instantly. Jiang Xuan collapses while chasing his car. She wakes in a hospital bed with failing organs. A phone call confirms Shen Huaixu already canceled their wedding. Weeping over her critical diagnosis, she looks out the door and spots him pushing a sick woman in a wheelchair.
EP 4: A Grave for Myself
Shen Huaixu attends to Shi Qing in the corridor, brushing off Jiang Xuan's hospital gown as a minor fever. He escorts Shi Qing for an infusion and ignores his wife completely. Jiang Xuan accepts that his care was an illusion and discharges herself. She visits a funeral parlor to order a custom tombstone. When the clerk asks whose name belongs on the stone, Jiang Xuan calmly gives her own name.
EP 5: Coughing Blood at the Bedside
Jiang Xuan purchases a burial plot set for the next day. Shen Huaixu calls her, furious that she is spending money while Shi Qing lies weak in the hospital. He orders her to bring fruit to the sickroom. Jiang Xuan complies. At the bedside, Shen Huaixu whispers that she must not upset Shi Qing. A sudden surge of pain strikes Jiang Xuan, and she begins coughing blood in front of them.
EP 6: The Divorce Papers
During her coughing fit, Jiang Xuan accidentally bumps Shi Qing's IV line. Shen Huaixu shoves Jiang Xuan to the floor in anger and wheels Shi Qing away. Later, Shen Huaixu tells a friend that Jiang Xuan loves him too much to stay angry. At home, Jiang Xuan coughs up blood alone in the bathroom. When Shen Huaixu offers half-hearted excuses outside the door, she steps out and hands him divorce papers.
EP 7: The Marrow Demand
Shen Huaixu hurls the divorce papers at Jiang Xuan, accusing her of throwing a tantrum. With one hour left before the system penalty, Jiang Xuan visits the hospital to say goodbye. A crisis strikes as doctors declare Shi Qing needs an emergency bone marrow transplant. Shen Huaixu offers to reschedule their wedding if Jiang Xuan donates. Jiang Xuan rejects his conditional affection, yet agrees to donate her marrow anyway.
EP 8: Blood on the Agreement
Jiang Xuan tells Shen Huaixu she will no longer hold him back, then walks away. A nurse hands Shen Huaixu the bloody divorce papers Jiang Xuan left behind, warning him that Jiang Xuan suffers from organ failure. Shen Huaixu rushes into the hallway in terror. He overhears other patients discussing a young woman named Jiang Xuan who collapsed and died right outside the hospital doors. The divorce papers slip from his hand.
EP 9: The Empty Bed
Shen Huaixu questions a patient who claims Jiang Xuan was moved to the morgue. He rushes to intercept a gurney and pulls back the sheet, but the deceased woman is a stranger. Shen Huaixu assumes Jiang Xuan is too resilient to perish. He heads to her hospital room to apologize and explain the marrow procedure. He pushes the door open, only to find an empty bed with fresh sheets.
EP 10: Shi Qing's Confession
A nurse explains that the patient discharged herself immediately after surgery, leaving her mobile phone behind on the bed. Shen Huaixu heads to the reception desk to review her medical charts, stating he is her husband. Before he can read the screen, an acquaintance summons him because Shi Qing has regained consciousness. Shen Huaixu rushes to Shi Qing's bedside, where she bursts into tears and reveals that Jiang Xuan has died.
